1월 11일 나의 순종과 다른 사람의 희생
"저희가 예수를 끌고 갈 때에 시몬이라는 구레네 사람이 시골로서 오는 것을 잡아 그에게 십자가를 지워 예수를 좇게 하더라'(눅 23:26).
우리가 하나님께 순종하면 우리보다 다른 사람이 힘들어지면서 고통이 시작됩니다. 주님을 사랑하는 사람에게 순종은 희생이 아닌 기쁨이 됩니다. 그러나 주님을 사랑하지 않는 이들에게는 부담스러운 희생이 됩니다. 우리의 순종이 다른 사람의 계획에 차질을 빚게 할 수도 있습니다. 그럴 때 그들은 "네가 말하는 기독교가 이런 것이냐?" 하며 우리를 비웃기도 합니다. 이런 괴로움을 미리 방지할 수도 있지만, 하나님께 순종하려면 피할 수 없는 짐입 니다.
우리 자존심은 조롱과 모욕으로부터 자신을 지키려고 합니다. “나는 결코 어느 누구로부터 어떤 것도 용납하지 않겠다"고 말하기도 합니다. 그러나 우리는 용납하든지 하나님께 불순종하든지 택해야 합니다. 주님도 처하셨던 상황을 우리가 벗어나고자 할 수는 없지 않겠습니까?
주님도 섬기고 세상 사람들도 섬기려고 애쓴다면 우리의 영적 생활은 침체 됩니다. 양쪽 다 만족시키고 좋게 넘어갈 수는 없습니다. 우리는 하나님의 우주적인 계획에 포함되어 있어서, 우리가 하나님께 순종하면 다른 이들이 즉시 영향을 받습니다. 믿음으로 순종하면서 세상의 비웃음을 감수하겠습니까, 아니면 다른 사람에게 끼칠 영향이 두려워 반대로 행동하겠습니까? 우리는 불순종할 수 있습니다. 그렇게 하면 우리의 어려움은 풀리겠지만 주님은 슬퍼하실 것입니다. 반대로 우리가 하나님께 순종하면, 그로 인해 피해받은 사람들 을 하나님이 돌보아 주실 것입니다. 다만 순종하고 모든 결과를 하나님께 맡기십시오.
다른 이들에게 미치는 영향을 두려워하여, 순종하는 조건으로 스스로 결과를 통제하려는 습성을 경계하십시오.

January 11 What My Obedience to God Costs Other People
As they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon…, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus. —Luke 23:26
If we obey God, it is going to cost other people more than it costs us, and that is where the pain begins. If we are in love with our Lord, obedience does not cost us anything— it is a delight. But to those who do not love Him, our obedience does cost a great deal. If we obey God, it will mean that other people’s plans are upset. They will ridicule us as if to say, “You call this Christianity?” We could prevent the suffering, but not if we are obedient to God. We must let the cost be paid.
When our obedience begins to cost others, our human pride entrenches itself and we say, “I will never accept anything from anyone.” But we must, or disobey God. We have no right to think that the type of relationships we have with others should be any different from those the Lord Himself had (see Luke 8:1-3).
A lack of progress in our spiritual life results when we try to bear all the costs ourselves. And actually, we cannot. Because we are so involved in the universal purposes of God, others are immediately affected by our obedience to Him. Will we remain faithful in our obedience to God and be willing to suffer the humiliation of refusing to be independent? Or will we do just the opposite and say, “I will not cause other people to suffer”? We can disobey God if we choose, and it will bring immediate relief to the situation, but it will grieve our Lord. If, however, we obey God, He will care for those who have suffered the consequences of our obedience. We must simply obey and leave all the consequences with Him.
Beware of the inclination to dictate to God what consequences you would allow as a condition of your obedience to Him.
