1월 19일 비전과 어둠
해질 때에 아브람이 깊이 잠든 중에 캄캄함이 임하므로 심히 두려워하더니(창 15:12).
하나님은 성도에게 비전을 주실 때마다 그분의 손 아래 그늘에 그를 놓으십니다. 그때 성도의 의무는 잠잠히 듣는 것입니다. 빛이 너무 밝으면 어둠도 찾아드는데, 그때가 바로 들어야 할 때입니다. 창세기 16장은 어둠이 왔을 때 하나님이 빛을 보내 주시기를 기다리지 않고, 그럴 듯한 조언에 넘어가고 있는 아브람의 모습을 보여 줍니다. 하나님이 주신 비전과 함께 어둠도 따라왔다면, 기다리십시오. 하나님의 때를 기다리면 그분은 친히 주신 비전을 현실로 이루어 주십니다. 하나님이 말씀하신 것이 속히 이루어지도록 당신이 하나 님을 도우려고 애쓰지 마십시오. 아브람은 13년 동안 침묵하면서 모든 자존 감이 붕괴되는 아픔을 겪었습니다. 상식적인 방법에 의지할 가능성도 없었습니다. 그 침묵의 세월은 하나님이 그를 기뻐하시지 않은 시간이 아니라, 훈련의 시간이었습니다. 기쁨과 확신을 내세우지 말고 묵묵히 하나님을 기다리십시오.
나는 조금이라도 육신에 의지하고 있지는 않습니까? 나 자신과 믿음의 사람들, 신앙 서적, 기도, 생활의 기쁨 등을 의지하지는 않습니까? 하나님의 축복이 아닌 하나님 그분을 신뢰하고 있습니까? 우리 주님은 전능하신 하나님, 엘 샤다이, 아버지이자 어머니인 하나님이십니다. 하나님이 우리를 훈련시키시는 한 가지 이유는 그분이 진정 살아 계심을 알게 하시려는 것입니다. 하나님이 실재가 되시면 사람들은 그림자가 됩니다. 하나님 위에 선 사람은 다른 성도의 말이나 행동에 결코 흔들리지 않습니다.

January 19 Vision and Darkness
When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. —Genesis 15:12
Whenever God gives a vision to a Christian, it is as if He puts him in “the shadow of His hand” (Isaiah 49:2). The saint’s duty is to be still and listen. There is a “darkness” that comes from too much light— that is the time to listen. The story of Abram and Hagar in Genesis 16 is an excellent example of listening to so-called good advice during a time of darkness, rather than waiting for God to send the light. When God gives you a vision and darkness follows, wait. God will bring the vision He has given you to reality in your life if you will wait on His timing. Never try to help God fulfill His word. Abram went through thirteen years of silence, but in those years all of his self-sufficiency was destroyed. He grew past the point of relying on his own common sense. Those years of silence were a time of discipline, not a period of God’s displeasure. There is never any need to pretend that your life is filled with joy and confidence; just wait upon God and be grounded in Him (see Isaiah 50:10-11).
Do I trust at all in the flesh? Or have I learned to go beyond all confidence in myself and other people of God? Do I trust in books and prayers or other joys in my life? Or have I placed my confidence in God Himself, not in His blessings? “I am Almighty God…”— El-Shaddai, the All-Powerful God (Genesis 17:1). The reason we are all being disciplined is that we will know God is real. As soon as God becomes real to us, people pale by comparison, becoming shadows of reality. Nothing that other saints do or say can ever upset the one who is built on God.
