5월 30일 “네, 그렇지만…”
주여, 내가 주를 따르겠나이다 마는…(눅 9:61)
하나님께서 상식에 맞지 않는 일을 하라고 명하실 때 당신은 어떻게 하겠습니까? 뒤로 물러나겠습니까? 물리적인 영역에서 당신이 어떤 습관에 빠져 있다면 그 습관을 단호하게 깨뜨리기까지 매번 그 행위를 할 것입니다. 영적인 영역에서도 마찬가지입니다.
당신은 주님이 원하시는 것을 행하기 위해 매번 일어나지만 마지막 순간에 꼭 뒤로 물러서게 됩니다. “네. 그렇지만… 만일 제가 하나님께 순종하면, 저는 앞으로 어떻게 되는 것입니까?” “네, 상식에서 벗어나지 않으면 하나님께 순종 하겠습니다. 그러나 아무것도 보이지 않는 어둠 속으로 발을 떼라고는 하지 마세요.”
예수 그리스도는 주를 믿는 자들에게 자연인이 스포츠 세계에서 보여 주는 그러한 과감한 정신을 가지라고 요구하십니다. 사람이 뭔가 가치 있는 일을 하려면 모든 것을 걸고 과감하게 나아가야 할 때가 있습니다. 마찬가지로 영적인 영역에서도, 그동안의 상식을 초월해 주님의 말씀대로 믿음으로 과감히 나아가야 합니다. 그렇게 하는 순간 당신은 그분께서 말씀하신 것이 상식만큼이나 확실하다는 것을 알게 됩니다.
상식선에서는 예수 그리스도의 말씀은 말도 안되는 것처럼 보입니다. 그러나 주의 말씀을 믿음으로 받으면 당신은 주의 말씀이 하나님의 말씀인 것을 알게 되면서 놀라워하게 됩니다. 전적으로 하나님을 신뢰하십시오. 하나님께서 당신에게 모험을 할 수 있는 기회를 주시면 주저하지 말고 받아들이십시오. 대부분의 그리스도인들은 위기 상황에서 이방인들처럼 행동합니다. 그많은 사람들 중 가끔 한두 사람만 하나님의 성품을 믿고 과감하게 나아갑니다.

Lord, I will follow You, but... —Luke 9:61
Suppose God tells you to do something that is an enormous test of your common sense, totally going against it. What will you do? Will you hold back? If you get into the habit of doing something physically, you will do it every time you are tested until you break the habit through sheer determination. And the same is true spiritually. Again and again you will come right up to what Jesus wants, but every time you will turn back at the true point of testing, until you are determined to abandon yourself to God in total surrender. Yet we tend to say, “Yes, but— suppose I do obey God in this matter, what about…?” Or we say, “Yes, I will obey God if what He asks of me doesn’t go against my common sense, but don’t ask me to take a step in the dark.”
Jesus Christ demands the same unrestrained, adventurous spirit in those who have placed their trust in Him that the natural man exhibits. If a person is ever going to do anything worthwhile, there will be times when he must risk everything by his leap in the dark. In the spiritual realm, Jesus Christ demands that you risk everything you hold on to or believe through common sense, and leap by faith into what He says. Once you obey, you will immediately find that what He says is as solidly consistent as common sense.
By the test of common sense, Jesus Christ’s statements may seem mad, but when you test them by the trial of faith, your findings will fill your spirit with the awesome fact that they are the very words of God. Trust completely in God, and when He brings you to a new opportunity of adventure, offering it to you, see that you take it. We act like pagans in a crisis— only one out of an entire crowd is daring enough to invest his faith in the character of God.
