3월 8일 양도된 삶
"내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니"(갈 2:20).
예수 그리스도와 연합하려면 죄를 버려야 할 뿐 아니라 사물을 전혀 새롭게 볼 수 있어야 합니다. 성령으로 거듭난다는 것은 무엇을 움켜잡기 전에 가진 것을 먼저 내놓아야 한다는 뜻입니다. 우리가 제일 먼저 놓아야 하는 것은 외식과 기만입니다. 주님이 받기 원하시는 것은 우리의 선함도, 정직함도, 노력도 아닌 우리의 진짜 죄입니다. 사실 주님이 우리에게서 받으실 수 있는 것은 죄가 전부입니다. 주님은 우리 죄를 가져가시고 대신 반석 같은 의를 주십니다. 우리는 외식의 탈을 벗어버려야 합니다. 스스로 하나님 앞에서 가치 있는 존재라 생각하는 자만심을 다 내어놓아야 합니다.
그러면 성령은 그 다음 버려야 할 것이 무언지 보여 주실 것입니다. 이런 과정이 한 단계씩 진행되어 감에 따라, 우리는 자신의 권리마저 내놓아야 합니다. 지금 모든 소유와 집착, 더 나아가 나의 삶 전부를 기꺼이 놓을 수 있습니까? 그리하여 예수 그리스도의 죽음이 곧 나의 죽음이 되게 할 수 있습니까?
모든 것을 완전히 놓으려 할 때 우리는 뼈아픈 고통과 환멸을 체험합니다. 주님이 보시듯 우리가 자신을 볼 수 있다면 추한 육신의 죄 때문이 아니라 그 마음에 있는, 예수 그리스도를 반대하는 무서운 자존심 때문에 놀랄 것입니다. 주님의 빛 가운데서 자신을 본다면 수치와 두려움과 절망적인 확신이 마음 속에 파고들 것입니다.
아직도 모든 것을 포기해야 하는지 의문스럽다면 위기를 감수하고 모든 것을 버리십시오. 그러면 하나님은 당신에게 원하시는 모든 일에 합당한 사람으로 당신을 만드실 것입니다.

March 8 The Surrendered Life
I have been crucified with Christ… —Galatians 2:20
To become one with Jesus Christ, a person must be willing not only to give up sin, but also to surrender his whole way of looking at things. Being born again by the Spirit of God means that we must first be willing to let go before we can grasp something else. The first thing we must surrender is all of our pretense or deceit. What our Lord wants us to present to Him is not our goodness, honesty, or our efforts to do better, but real solid sin. Actually, that is all He can take from us. And what He gives us in exchange for our sin is real solid righteousness. But we must surrender all pretense that we are anything, and give up all our claims of even being worthy of God’s consideration.
Once we have done that, the Spirit of God will show us what we need to surrender next. Along each step of this process, we will have to give up our claims to our rights to ourselves. Are we willing to surrender our grasp on all that we possess, our desires, and everything else in our lives? Are we ready to be identified with the death of Jesus Christ?
We will suffer a sharp painful disillusionment before we fully surrender. When people really see themselves as the Lord sees them, it is not the terribly offensive sins of the flesh that shock them, but the awful nature of the pride of their own hearts opposing Jesus Christ. When they see themselves in the light of the Lord, the shame, horror, and desperate conviction hit home for them.
If you are faced with the question of whether or not to surrender, make a determination to go on through the crisis, surrendering all that you have and all that you are to Him. And God will then equip you to do all that He requires of you.
