2월 21일 진실로 주님을 사랑하는가?
"저가 내게 좋은 일을 하였느니라"(막 14:6).
우리가 사랑이라고 부르는 것이 우리를 한계 너머에까지 데려가지 못한다면, 그것은 진정한 사랑이라고 하기 어렵습니다. 사랑이 항상 신중하고 현명하며 지각 있고 사리를 따진다면, 그것은 따뜻한 감정일 뿐 그 안에 참된 사랑의 본질은 없습니다.
당신은 순전히 주님을 사랑하기 때문에 어떤 일을 하지 않을 수 없었던 경험이 있습니까? 유용해서, 의무라서, 소질이 있어서 한 것이 아니라 다만 주님 때문에 말입니다. 한번이라도 하나님께 당신의 귀중한 것을 드릴 수 있다고 생각한 적이 있습니까, 아니면 하나님의 위대하신 대속이 얼마나 큰지 상상하면서 그저 앉아 있습니까? 내가 하나님께 완전히 빠져 있다는 증거는 성스럽고 거창한 일들을 통해서만 나타나는 것이 아닙니다. 평범하고 단순한 일상사, 그러나 주님께 당신의 전부를 내드렸음을 증명해 주는 그런 일 속에서 주님에 대한 당신의 사랑을 증명할 수 있습니다. 베다니의 마리아가 주님의 마음에 새겨 드린 것과 같은 감동을 주님께 드린 적이 있습니까?
하나님이 나의 사랑을 알아보시기 위해 나를 내려다보고 계신 것 같이 느껴 질 때가 있습니다. 내가 거룩한 사람이 되는 것보다 나를 하나님께 내어드리는 것이 더 귀중한 일입니다. 자신의 거룩함에 대한 우리의 관심은 우리 눈을 자신에게 향하게 합니다. 그래서 혹시라도 하나님께 불순종하지는 않을까 두려워하며 언행과 겉모습에 지나치게 신경쓰게 합니다. 그러나 완전한 사랑은 우리가 하나님께 몰입할 때 나 중심의 모든 것을 가져가 버립니다. "내가 하나님께 무슨 쓸모가 있을까?" 하는 자문은 그치십시오. 하나님께 쓸모없는 존재 인 것을 아는 사람은 진리 가까이 있습니다. 내가 소용이 있는지 여부가 문제가 아니라 하나님께 가치 있는지가 중요합니다. 우리가 하나님께 온전히 드려지면, 하나님은 언제나 우리를 통해 일하십니다.

February 21 Do You Really Love Him?
She has done a good work for Me. —Mark 14:6
If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love. If we have the idea that love is characterized as cautious, wise, sensible, shrewd, and never taken to extremes, we have missed the true meaning. This may describe affection and it may bring us a warm feeling, but it is not a true and accurate description of love.
Have you ever been driven to do something for God not because you felt that it was useful or your duty to do so, or that there was anything in it for you, but simply because you love Him? Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him? Or are you just sitting around daydreaming about the greatness of His redemption, while neglecting all the things you could be doing for Him? I’m not referring to works which could be regarded as divine and miraculous, but ordinary, simple human things— things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him. Have you ever created what Mary of Bethany created in the heart of the Lord Jesus? “She has done a good work for Me.”
There are times when it seems as if God watches to see if we will give Him even small gifts of surrender, just to show how genuine our love is for Him. To be surrendered to God is of more value than our personal holiness. Concern over our personal holiness causes us to focus our eyes on ourselves, and we become overly concerned about the way we walk and talk and look, out of fear of offending God. “…but perfect love casts out fear…” once we are surrendered to God (1 John 4:18). We should quit asking ourselves, “Am I of any use?” and accept the truth that we really are not of much use to Him. The issue is never of being of use, but of being of value to God Himself. Once we are totally surrendered to God, He will work through us all the time.
