7월 28일 주님의 목적
예수께서 즉시 제자들을 재촉하사... 건너편 벳새다로 가게 하시고(막6:45)
우리는 예수 그리스도께서 우리를 강권하실 때 그분께 순종하면 그분이 우리를 대성공으로 인도하실 것이라고 생각하는 경향이 있습니다. 그러나 우리는 결코 성공의 꿈을 우리를 향하신 하나님의 목적이라고 내세우면 안 됩니다. 주님의 목적은 오히려 반대일 수 있습니다. 우리는 하나님께서 우리가 원하는 어떤 특별한 목적을 향해 우리를 인도하고 계신다고 생각합니다. 그러나 그렇지 않습니다. 특별한 목적을 이루게 되는 것은 어쩌다가 그렇게 된 것입니다. 우리가 ‘과정’이라고 부르는 것을 하나님께서 ‘목적’이라고 부르십니다.
무엇이 하나님의 목적에 대한 나의 꿈입니까? 그분의 목적은 지금 내가 주님과 주의 능력을 의지하는 것입니다. 만일 요동 속에서 평안하고 당황하지 않을 수 있다면, 그것이 하나님의 목적 성취입니다. 하나님은 어떤 특별한 마무리를 향해 역사하지 않으십니다. 그분의 목적은 그 과정입니다. 해변도 보이지 않고 성공도, 목적지도 없는 가운데서 파도 위를 걷고 계시는 주님을 보는 것입니다. 바다 위를 걸으시는 주님을 보기 때문에 완전한 확신 가운데 머무는 것입니다. 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 것은 과정이지 목적이 아닙니다.
하나님의 훈련은 지금 받아야 하는 것이지 나중에 받으려고 하면 안 됩니다. 그분의 목적은 이 순간을 위한 것이지 먼 미래를 위한 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 순종한 이후의 이들이 어떻게 될까를 생각하면 그릇되게 됩니다. 사람들이 훈련 또는 준비라고 말하는 것을 하나님께서 목적이라고 부르십니다.
하나님의 목적은 주께서 지금 내 삶의 혼돈 위에서 걸으실 수 있음을 내가 볼 수 있게 하는 것입니다. 만일 우리가 이것 외에 더 이상의 목적을 보려고 한다면 우리는 당면한 현재에 충분한 주의를 기울이는 것이 아닙니다. 우리가 순종이 목적이라는 사실을 깨달을 때 다가오는 각 순간들마다 귀하게 여기게 되는 것입니다.
God’s Purpose or Mine?

We tend to think that if Jesus Christ compels us to do something and we are obedient to Him, He will lead us to great success. We should never have the thought that our dreams of success are God’s purpose for us. In fact, His purpose may be exactly the opposite. We have the idea that God is leading us toward a particular end or a desired goal, but He is not. The question of whether or not we arrive at a particular goal is of little importance, and reaching it becomes merely an episode along the way. What we see as only the process of reaching a particular end, God sees as the goal itself.
What is my vision of God’s purpose for me? Whatever it may be, His purpose is for me to depend on Him and on His power now. If I can stay calm, faithful, and unconfused while in the middle of the turmoil of life, the goal of the purpose of God is being accomplished in me. God is not working toward a particular finish— His purpose is the process itself. What He desires for me is that I see “Him walking on the sea” with no shore, no success, nor goal in sight, but simply having the absolute certainty that everything is all right because I see “Him walking on the sea” (Mark 6:49). It is the process, not the outcome, that is glorifying to God.
God’s training is for now, not later. His purpose is for this very minute, not for sometime in the future. We have nothing to do with what will follow our obedience, and we are wrong to concern ourselves with it. What people call preparation, God sees as the goal itself.
God’s purpose is to enable me to see that He can walk on the storms of my life right now. If we have a further goal in mind, we are not paying enough attention to the present time. However, if we realize that moment-by-moment obedience is the goal, then each moment as it comes is precious.
